外院网讯(通讯员 李响)2024年11月18日晚6点半,外国语学院外语文化节系列活动之英语角活动在三号教学楼3楼多功能外语教学中心拉开序幕。该活动旨在通过轻松愉悦的口语交流拓宽学生的交际视野、扩充英语文化知识,从而提升学生的英语口语表达能力和跨文化交际能力。外国语学院四名外籍教师Wesley, David, Donyea, Thando、英语系教研室主任金汤老师以及来自全校的百余名学生参加了此次英语角活动。
本周英语角活动的主题是“节日”,旨在通过语言的桥梁,感受不同文化背景下的节日氛围,增进跨文化理解与交流。活动主持人22级英语2班许雅闻同学首先介绍了“龙”的形象在中国和外国文化中的差异,从而引出了中国传统节日——龙舟节。随后,各位外籍教师也分别分享了他们国家的一些传统节日和文化习俗。
各位外籍教师首先以对话小游戏的方式与同学们认识,随后同学们也纷纷用英语和外籍教师们热情交流。在轻松愉快的氛围中,结合节日话题,同学们分享了诸多自己家乡的传统节日庆祝活动以及各种活动的由来和文化内涵。除此之外,同学们也积极与外籍教师就日常爱好话题展开热情交流,彼此之间互动十分融洽,展现出师生和睦,生生和谐的交流画面。
本次英语角活动不仅能让同学们更加了解英语文化、传播中国文化,也极大地提高了同学们对英语学习和交流的兴趣。
此次英语角活动的成功举办,宛如点亮了一座文化交流的灯塔。参与者们在其中尽情展现自我,英语口语能力如羽翼渐丰,不同思想在这里碰撞,拓宽了彼此的视野,也搭建起一座社交的桥梁,让友谊之花绚烂绽放。希望此次英语角活动的成功举办能为后续活动积累宝贵经验,吸引更多的学生积极参与,在全校营造更加浓厚的英语学习交流氛围。(审核 冶慧颖)
Foreign Languages Culture Festival Series Activities --- English Corner Successfully Held
(By Correspondent Li Xiang) At 6:30 PM on November 18, 2024, the English Corner activity, part of the Foreign Languages Culture Festival series, kicked off at the Multi-functional Teaching Center on the 3rd floor of the No. 3 Teaching Building. The event aims to broaden students’ communicative horizons and enrich their English cultural knowledge through relaxed and enjoyable spoken communication, thereby enhancing their English speaking skills and cross-cultural communication abilities. Four foreign teachers from School of Foreign Languages, Wesley, David, Donyea, Thando, the Director of the English Department’s Teaching and Research Office, Teacher Jin Tang, and more than a hundred students from across the campus participated in this activity.
The theme of this week’s English Corner was “Festivals,” aiming to experience the festive atmosphere in different cultural contexts and to enhance cross-cultural understanding and communication through the bridge of language. The host, Xu Yawen, a student from the Class 2 of Grade 2022 English major, first introduced the differences in the image of the “Dragon” in Chinese and foreign cultures, which led to the introduction of the traditional Chinese festival – Dragon Boat Festival. Subsequently, the foreign teachers also shared some traditional festivals and cultural customs from their home countries.
The foreign teachers first engaged with the students through a conversational game, after which the students enthusiastically communicated with them in English. In a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, combined with the topic of festivals, the students shared many traditional festival celebration activities from their hometowns, as well as the origins and cultural connotations of these activities. Students also actively engaged in enthusiastic conversations with foreign teachers on daily hobbies, interacting very harmoniously with each other, displaying a picture of harmonious teacher-student and student-student communication.
This English Corner activity greatly enhanced students’ interest in English learning and communication. The successful holding of this activity was like lighting a beacon of cultural exchange. Participants fully demonstrated themselves, with their English speaking skills gradually improving. Different ideas collided here, broadening each other’s horizons, building a bridge for social interaction, and the flower of friendship blooming brilliantly. It is hoped that the successful holding of this English Corner activity will accumulate valuable experience for subsequent activities, attract more students to actively participate, and build a stronger atmosphere for English learning and communication across the campus.
