Cherry Blossoms Dancing, Foreign Languages Bridging the World
(Reported by: Li Yuejin) On the afternoon of March 27th, our university’s first “Cherry Blossom Invitation” Science Popularization Exhibition was held at the library square. Over 600 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools in the Guanggu area, including Guanggu Ninth Primary School, Guanggu Second Junior High School, Tangxun Lake High School, and Wuhan Maple Leaf School, came to enjoy the cherry blossoms and the exhibition. President Zheng Jun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Hu Xing, and Vice President Zhang Hongmei attended the opening ceremony.
Spring cherry blossoms are like snow, fragrant throughout the garden, and foreign languages are like bridges, initiating the journey of wisdom. The School of Foreign Languages actively responded to the university’s call, meticulously planning booth activities with the theme “Connecting the World through Languages, Cherry Blossom Culture Popularization.” By integrating language interaction and cultural experience, we presented a unique spring science popularization and cultural feast for the visiting teachers and students.
On the day of the event, teachers and students from the Foreign Languages School arrived early at the library square to set up the booths. Under the red tent, the sign “School of Foreign Languages” was prominent, and the eye-catching “Global Voice Carnival” poster displayed the school’s distinctive features. The theme display racks, foreign language interaction area, and handicraft experience corner were arranged in an orderly manner, with cherry blossom elements and foreign language culture cleverly blended. Student volunteers, transformed into “cultural ambassadors,” formed a beautiful scenery line under the pink and white cherry blossom trees, waiting for the arrival of friends from primary and secondary schools.
In front of the characteristic activity area of the Foreign Languages School, the passionate singing of the foreign teacher Thando attracted many primary and secondary school students to stop and enjoy, instantly transforming the previously quiet exhibition area into a lively one. The students were enthusiastic, queuing in an orderly manner, eager to participate. Foreign teacher Wesley, holding English word cards, guided the students to actively answer questions through vivid body movements and interesting language descriptions. The student volunteers from the Foreign Languages School coordinated smoothly with the foreign teachers. The young students gained knowledge amidst laughter and joy, and their passion for learning foreign languages was ignited under the cherry blossom trees.
Members of the leadership team of the Foreign Languages School also came to the scene, exchanging warm greetings with the volunteers and participating teachers, and highly recognizing the volunteers’ spirit of dedication and the innovation of the activities. In an interview, they stated, “Cross-cultural interaction is the charm of the Foreign Languages School’s activities, which not only showcases the vitality of the students but also reflects the infectious power of foreign language education.”
Meanwhile, outdoor activities were also in full swing. Several young students in school uniforms, inspired by the atmosphere, spontaneously formed a small circle and danced gracefully. They rotated with the rhythm of the music, resembling lively spring elves, attracting passing teachers and students to stop and record this pure impromptu performance with their phones. The interweaving of pink petals and youthful figures became the lightest footnote to the “Cherry Blossom Invitation” Science Popularization Exhibition.
During this Science Popularization Exhibition, the School of Foreign Languages used cherry blossoms as a medium, integrating foreign language learning into fun interactions, successfully creating an immersive cultural experience platform. Through activities led by foreign teachers, such as word games, Global Voice Carnival world singing flash mobs, English spin-the-wheel challenges, and letter creativity drawing · AI inspiration workshops, the participating primary and secondary school students experienced the charm of language culture while enjoying the cherry blossoms, building a bridge of knowledge for cross-cultural understanding. In the future, the Foreign Languages School will continue to rely on its characteristic activities, allowing foreign language culture to bloom more brilliantly in the hearts of more people, just like the beautiful cherry blossoms!
