Foreign Languages Culture Festival Series Activities --- English Corner Successfully Held

By Correspondent Wang Xue'erAt 6:30 PM on April 17, 2025, a unique English Corner event was held in the second-floor multimedia classroom of the School of Foreign Languages. Organized by Class 1 of the 2023 Translation Program, the event centered around the theme "Places You Want to Visit" and attracted participation from three foreign teachers—Wesley, Donyea, and Thando—as well as English enthusiasts from across the university.

The event featured four segments: student sharing, group discussions, interactive games, and foreign teachers' stories.

During the initial student-sharing session, participants were somewhat reserved. Noticing this, foreign teacher Wesley warmly encouraged everyone, gradually easing tensions and livening up the atmosphere.

The group discussion became the highlight of the event. Students and foreign teachers collaborated in mixed teams to design their ideal travel itineraries, factoring in budgets, time constraints, and cultural highlights. Through this exercise, students not only honed their English communication skills but also learned the nuances of teamwork in a multicultural setting.

The game "Who’s the Spy?" cleverly blended language practice with fun. Designed to sharpen quick thinking and on-the-spot expression, the game required participants to describe clues on slips of paper while deducing the hidden "spy". Laughter filled the room as the game broke the ice between students and foreign teachers.

In the final sharing session, the foreign teachers regaled the audience with travel anecdotes. Wesley recounted his experience of switching to online teaching due to a pandemic-related flight cancellation, while Donyea shared lively tales of his trips to Thailand and Japan, complete with animated gestures that had the crowd in stitches. These firsthand cross-cultural stories not only broadened students’ global perspectives but also offered vivid insights into diverse cultures.

The two-hour event left many attendees reluctant to leave. Beyond deepening students’ understanding of foreign cultures and fostering teamwork, the English Corner boosted their confidence in English communication, encouraging them to integrate language learning into daily life and explore extracurricular language practice in new ways.
